Fake Shirt, False Claims: Kasama’s Hit Piece Completely Misses the Target
Source: Nevada News & Views
While I accept that lying is an accepted political practice – perfected by Democrats, of course – that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to like it or accept it. Case in point…
A political newcomer, Albert Mack, is running in the GOP primary for the Clark County commission seat currently held by scandal-plagued Democrat Commissioner Justin Jones.
He’s being opposed by Republican State Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama – fresh off voting remotely for the Hollywood Handout in the special session.
And even though we’re in the holiday season of goodwill towards men (and women, and even men identifying as women), the Kasama campaign just sent out a “hit piece” against Mack.
I obtained a copy yesterday – and what a load of crap.
I’d never met Mr. Mack or spoken to him until this week.
We talked for over two hours. And while there are legitimate issues his campaign will have to address, I want to address some of the ones featured in the mailer.
First, this breathless headline on the front: “RINO ALBERT MACK – THAT HILLARY GUY.”
Followed by: “Albert Mack supported Hillary Clinton for president – the perfect fit for a liberal RINO” – which, if you don’t know, stands for “Republican In Name Only.”
It includes a photo of him wearing a white t-shirt that reads, “I’m With Her” – Hillary’s campaign slogan of sorts from 2016.
Now here’s the thing:
It’s photo-shopped. Mack never wore any such shirt. The photo is an outright lie.
Secondly, the “source” for the claim that Mack was a Hillary supporter is printed in type so small that even people with perfect vision would have a hard time reading it.
I had to use a magnifying glass.
And the “source” is nothing more than a link to his X account. No particular or specific tweet. Just his account in its entirety.
I guess we’re supposed to scroll through 10 years’ worth of tweets hoping to find exactly what Kasama is talking about.
Um, no. If you can’t reference a particular tweet, I’m not going looking for it. I’ll just assume it’s another political exaggeration – if not outright lie.
The back side of the mailer goes on to claim that Mack “Never voted for Joe Lombardo.”
That’s a lie of omission. Mack told me he was like a lot of our fellow citizens – he simply didn’t vote at all.
So saying he didn’t vote for Lombardo makes it seem like he voted for Sisolak. He didn’t.
On the other hand, while he may not have voted in 2022, Mr. Mack certainly put his money where his heart was in that race.
From two separate family trusts, Mack donated $20,000 to Lombardo’s campaign and helped raise thousands more.
He also donated another $10,000 to Republican Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill.
The mailer also claims Mack “Praised leftist ringleader Harry Reid.”
Well, yes. But the attack lacks appropriate context.
Mack comes from a well-known, highly-respected family in Las Vegas. UNLV’s “Thomas & Mack Center” was named after his grandfather – who donated a TON of money (millions!) to the university.
And the “praise” for Reid over ten years ago had nothing whatsoever to do with politics.
It was a tweet of appreciation for Sen. Reid helping to raise a boatload of money at a fundraiser for UNLV’s Legal Clinic.
As for his donations to Sen. Jacky Rosen, that lacks context as well.
Before Congress, Rosen was president of Congregation Ner Tamid, the synagogue Mack’s family helped build. In fact, the venue has a room named the “Joyce and Jerome Mack Sanctuary.”
So, yeah. You can criticize the donations. That’s fair game. But in politics, donations are often personal, based on relationships more than politics – which seems the case in this instance.
The mailer goes on to claim Mack “Mocked President Trump.”
But when you read the two tweets where Mack supposedly “mocked” Trump, they weren’t even his tweets. They were retweets. And the “mocking” – if you can call it that at all – was, at best, mild.
I mean, they didn’t even include the words “Nazi,” “Hitler,” or “fascist.”
To be fair, there ARE legitimate questions and concerns that he’ll have to answer from Republican primary voters. But the attacks in this mailer were, at the very least, misleading and lies of omission.
They were over the top and below the knees.
If this is the best the Kasama team has against Mr. Mack, they ain’t got much. But I’m sure they’re just getting warmed up.
